This helmet fits great! Safety in biking always a must! This helmet is comfortable and safe to wear. Definitely recommend for anyone who rides!I wear a medium in every other helmet out there. I measured my head and I fall well within the stated size range for medium. The helmet is super tight, there are two little "nubbins" that poke into the back sides of my head and a bit painful unless I really twist the knob hard, no way could I wear a winter liner under this even if did not poke me.Glancing at the POC website size chart, they say that the ventral air helmets run small. POC, if you already know this, why the heck don't you update your head circumference recommendations?Exchanging it for a size L.Good news is that it looks really nice, and is super light.Great helmet and fit!I took a while to post this review, because, …I’ve been riding and enjoying this helmet. When I started cycling as an adult, my first purchase was a helmet. I have always worn either Giro or Bell. I’ve crashed in at least one of those, and still have my wits, so take on faith the protection offered by name brand helmets. The choice between brands comes down to features, comfort, and appearance. “MIPS” technology is a safety advance from recent years. I’d recommend you do your research on the value of this feature. I wanted that in my next helmet.I knew of POC from their pro cycling sponsorships. While their helmets are distinctive in style, I was unfamiliar with their features. The Ventral Air MIPS is part of their top-of-the line series.Every new helmet must be properly fitted. This usually leaves a length of excess strap that to cut off and seal. The strap on the Ventral Air ends in an adjusting loop; you pull it for fine adjustment, tightening or loosening. So that loop isn’t flopping around, there’s a “keeper” strap to hold it down. Very clever. The size runs true; I wear a large in almost every helmet, the POC large is perfect. I’m told that I have a round head shape; I have found that motorcycle helmets designed for “round oval” heads fit me better than the ones called “narrow oval.” The POC fits on the money regarding shape. A few clicks of the micro-adjuster in the back, and it’s snug and comfortable. I will say that the fit is more secure than my old helmet. My most recent other helmet is a Giro; I found that it ventilated very well, better than my previous Bell. The Ventral Air is at least incrementally better, with plenty of intake vents, and HUGE exhaust vents in the back. The F-R ribs of the helmet are deeper to create air channels, while the side-to-side ribs are less deep top to bottom to provide structural strength without impeding air flow.I ride mainly road and paved trails, with a large percentage of my rides this year being on a Catrike recumbent trike. I have a headrest on the trike, so I was concerned that the rear of the helmet might hit the headrest. It does not. Of course, that’s an issue for a small minority of the potential users of the Ventral Air.It comes in several colors; I chose matte black, because it matches most everything. The outer shell seems to be perfectly fused to the polystyrene liner, with no gaps or visible imperfections. Like the clever strap system, this just says “quality.” The helmet comes with a nice microfiber storage bag.For my first venture into a truly premium cycle helmet, I can comfortably give the POC Ventral Air MIPS full marks. Highly recommended. We recently got an electric scooter, plus my wife rides roller blades, and we’re talking about an electric bike - or recumbent, not sure which. We have a need for a couple bike helmets. I will fully admit, we are NOT experts in this area and have done no research beyond knowing they need to be rated and that there are good ones and bad. We have each owned in the past - that kind that looks similar to this, but with that point at the back, which always makes us think, what happens if you land on the back and that point slams the helmet forward...So when I had the chance to grab this POC Ventral Air MIPS (CPSC) I took it without hesitation. Not only does it look good, but in wearing it, it feels great and gives us a sense of being safer than without a helmet. And for all the helmets we have owned, that this has the blunted back, answers that “what if,”So this POC Ventral Air MIPS (CPSC) arrived and we broke in right away - had to see it in person. We were blown away by the presentation - it comes in a nice box - make sure to take care of this box, it is your storage box! Inside you’ll find the helmet and a bag. Open up and the helmet goes in the bag in the box - it is a GREAT way to store your helmet! Our previous helmets always end up on a shelf somewhere. This is excellent and we were already impressed.Next... the helmet. It looks cool. Not only the color - I’m a blue guy and it’s perfect - but the overall design is so cool. We both liked the matted look - over the glossy really - but in person it looks even better. And on, it looks seriously cool. I tried it with both my reading glasses - no point other than to see how well it handles glasses - and my sunglasses - one of several I own, so one design style - and in both cases they fit perfectly under the sides of the helmet. I felt like I could wear them for an hour and have no rub or discomfort. I have not actually worn them out riding yet, but in this situation, the test was impressive. As to that idea we always wondered about - what happens if you land on the back and that point - this is blunted, meaning there is no point. You land and it makes sense - you’ll have the back side make contact, but in a way that appears it’ll cushion the head and not shove it or the helmet forward. The helmet is really light weight and you cannot believe how it feels like it could be that light and protect your head. So we put it on... and for me it fit perfectly. I got the large due to my large head. I had to open the strap slightly, but one half turn on the wheel and it was perfect - snug, but not tight nor uncomfortable. Now we only have this one, so when my wife went out to test the scooter, she had to wear this one. She has a much smaller head than mine, but it was nothing to size this down for her - while she technically doesn’t fit their size chart at this size, it worked well - she was comfortable and felt completely secure in it. It was very easy to size down for her, then bring it back up for me. It was easy and quick and we both felt great with it on.I’ll be honest - this price point is above what we would normally spend. I was able to get it as a Vine Reviewer and for that I am grateful. I normally do not speak to price because of that, but in this case, wish to address it. In talking about it, we WOULD spend the money to get a second one for her. We feel that the safety this “promises” is worth the money. Now that said, We would do much more research first - we are not experts on the safety aspects of helmets and would make sure first. There is NO way we would go out and test this - meaning risk our head to see that is does what it promises. But if our further research shows what we think it would, yes, we would consider spending the money. Brain safety is important and we want something good. Now that said, if there is a product at a lower price that provides equal safety, we would seriously consider that - money is something we are careful with, but so too our safety. In the end, this is an excellent helmet that fits well and comfortably. Safety is the priority. But we do have to be realistic about cost. So if we could afford it and our research indicates it is a value, then yes, we would pay, but if not, if we found something as good at a lower price point, we’d have to look in that direction. But we both love this POC Ventral Air MIPS (CPSC) helmet and are thrilled to have it.Prior to having this helmet, my son used a skateboard-style helmet while biking, which was uncomfortable on hot days because it didn't have much ventilation. This POC helmet, with its large cooling vents, makes a WORLD of difference in keeping his head cool. It's a pricey helmet for sure, but the top of the line safety features and comfort are well worth the money if your budget allows. It's super light and comfy, and as a bonus it's sleek and aesthetically pleasing too. I was so impressed with the quality of this that I bought a POCito kid's helmet (also with MIPS technology) for my young daughter. I'm very happy with the brand. Highly recommended!
